Xenomorphic life forms discovered June 3990 by Commander Karidian and the crew of the IN 4880 Geronimo, by direct observation and through retrieval of records from the derelict merchant ship YAG Kyle Lattimer found in system. Due to the alien nature of the mass-energy composition, it is unclear if the life forms are biotic or mechanical. Direct observation is complicated by the high-energy nature of the xenomorphs. Standard EM instrumentation produced erratic and sometimes contradictory data, and gravimetric estimates of mass and distance were impossible. Optics were consistent but incomplete.

The origin of the life forms is not known. However since they entirely eluded system survey in 3912 by the FSS Henry Hudson, it is believed they came across the Matryeshka Drive found in system. The terminus of the Matryeshka Drive in Silis is not known.

Classes

Slug

The Slug forms are highly motile near-invisible creatures approximately 0.3 to 0.5 meters in length, 0.05 to 0.1 meters in width and height. Physical form as seen through ultraviolet detection shows preference for motion toward one half, called a "head" though no anatomic details are clear. The Slugs travel electromagnetic strands of H3, and appear in swarms numbering in the hundreds, perhaps thousands. The Slug forms seem to digest matter, especially metals and salts, converting it to the high-G matter that is woven throughout Silis system.

Slugs seem to be disrupted by electricity. At a minimum, it leaves a "bad taste in the mouth", avoiding an area that has been subjected to high voltage.

Shard

The Shard forms are found in the upper atmosphere of Silis Gas Giants, apparently only one exists in each of Silis' three such planets. Shards appear as a slightly cambered, very acute triangle approximately 4km in length, 300m base width, and 50m height. The top of he shard is oriented spaceward, with the positive camber. It has the appearance of a dusky mirrored hard finish, that adopts the planet's ambient color. The underbelly side consists of a thick blanket of closely packed, subtly moving bulbs some 10m to 20m in diameter, height unknown but at least 5m. The movement of the bulbs was characterized as "growing" or "shifting" fields of shadow and color; it was not clear on observation if there was physical movement at all.

According to records retrieved from the derelict merchant vessel, the Shard form grew its upper shell very quickly, via an unknown electromechanical process. The bulbous underside evolved slowly, a process described as "growth" or "colonization" of the bulbs. Whether the bulbs represent a distinct class or a part of the Shard itself is not known.

Predator

See Xenomorph Predators for combat details

Predator class lifeforms are the only one observed traveling in vacuum microgravity. They resemble an inky black, rectangular shape with a dense sphere in the center. They orient themselves upright, perpendicular to the plane of their flat bodies. The rectangle seems to be either immaterial or made of plasma, or perhaps a particulate material held together by plasma or some kind of magnetism. A dense spherical nucleus in the center seems to be the creature's brain and nerve center, as the planar "body" of energy emanates from it.

During the firefight when the merchant ship was boarded, two of the predators were rendered inert by repeated laser and small arms fire aimed at the "brain". The brain casing is a dense uniform composite of lead, uranium, chromium, gold, and other heavy metals. The nucleus has never been opened or autopsied, although it was in both cases scarred, burnt, and melted in the fight.

They travel in swarms of 6-20 (as observed) or more, moving at hyper-G speeds in perfect coordination.

Seed

The Seeds are described in the logs retrieved from the derelict. There are three large 10km egg-shaped interstellar ships, traveling from Silis system to STAN. Not much is known about their manufacture or growth, other than they emerged individually from each of Silis system's three gas giants.

Xenomorph Technology

The technology extant in Silis system represents an evolution of science, exhibiting TL16 and TL17 topics such as matter transference and hyper-G. Using the system's binary star as some kind of engine, the Xenomorphs have laid an electro-gravitic conduit between the star pair and each of the gas giants. The conduit transfers molecular information and communications. Also, space vessels can ride the conduit, using it to accelerate to 49G.

Physical Properties

The technology somehow uses helium, H3, and lithium to create macrogravity over very short distances, which in turn chain themselves into long whip-like molecular strands. At atomic distances, the gravitometric readings show equivalence in principle to Gravitic physics, but applied at the very high energies in the counduit produce time-dilation effects. These effects last as long as the conduit can sustain its high energy state.

Impact on Navigation and Comms

Navigation in Silis system anywhere near the conduits is hazardous and prone to error, due to the inability of instrumentation to interpret the gravitic and photoelectric anomalies in the Xenomorph technology. Mass readings and mass-based sensing are useless. Communications is difficult due to high levels of radiation and poor coordination with automated decoding.

Impact on Computers and Gravitics

The ship's computers aboard the Geronimo experienced frequent shutdown after close contact with Xenomorph life (possibly a Predator class), although the timing may be coincidental. The autonomic aspects of the ship's smart systems would hang in kind of "panic mode" it entered to repair itself. Similarly but less frequently, Grav would also cut off and need to be restarted.

All computer-assisted tasks are -1 to -4 while computers are offline
Reinstating Computers temporarily is Difficult, repairing is Formidable
If Gravitics are offline, zero-g penalties may apply
